Try to condition at least weekly. This should help with the breakage. Consider getting layers cut throughout the length of your hair. That way you can wrap and go without to much maintenance.

Should women over 40 wear hair styles for their age group?
I think it depends to a point, on if you look your age, look younger than your age, or if you look older than your age. I've seen some 40 yr. olds that look 50 because of all the sun damage to their skin and they are smokers. I'm going to be 42 this year and people usually think I look 35-36. If you look younger you can get away with styles that are a little trendy. The most important thing is you want a style that will compliment your face shape and features. If you got a style that looks great on you, it doesn't matter what your age is. A bob is a nice cut low maintenance depending on your face shape etc, I am sorry to hear that you have a sensitivity to hair products, however most people do, although it hits them in there purses, some clients have so many products on there hair ie all silicone based it is untrue, I would suggest that you pick a good salon and have a free consultation, and do not be bullied into any style they may want you to have
It would be my opinion that your hair is in very good condition because you don't use products on it, although you don't say whether it is long , thick thin colour etc, even my salon offers the latest in computer tech , so that you can see any style style on you before any work is done to your hair

Being an older woman, I find having my hair on the longer side is the best. All summer, it's pulled back or up with a big clip. I let it air dry to keep it healthy and get it trimmed every few months. If I want a special occasion, then I can curl it up and still feel a bit sexy at 60...lol

bring your bangs forward onto your face, start blow drying them with a round brush or a flat brush depending on your hair type and how you're comfortable wearing them and as you dry it start directing it to whichever side you want to keep it on.
If your bangs keep flopping onto your hair or going back into a middle parting, try this. On towel dried damp hair, you could use a comb to comb your bangs to whichever side you want to wear them on then use a clip to hold it in place. Once it dries, release the clip and it will probably stay that way. Do this for a week and your parting will start staying that way.

Also, if you have hair that doesn't get too oily or greasy, put a little bit of hair spray, spray wax, or even jarred wax on them. this just gives them that ';finished'; look. After you've finished: DON'T touch them! Also, don't try to curl them with a curling iron because they'll just get weird on you. It's definitely good to maintain them with a good trim every so often. Good luck!!! (Side-swept bangs are awesome!)
After you take a shower, let your bangs dry naturally. Then, once they have dried; take a round med-large size natural bristle hair brush and wrap the bangs around the brush. With a slow motion, and your hair dryer set at medium heat; comb inwards but with the bangs stretched out above your head. Continue to comb inwards in a slow motion with a constant heat. It's best to blow dry your bangs in sections. Good luck!

I am a woman in my mid fifties, with a hair style that needs updating.

Why is it some women keep the same hair style for 20 years?
I work in a office where these women are in there 40's and 50's and have funky hair do's like they wore them back when they were young. Let me give you example and hopefully you can relate. There is this women in her 40's that has this blond hair that seems like it was dyed by a company from the 60's or something. No type of ';pazaz'; to it or nothing if your following) Im the type of person and I know many of you are that changes hair styles often. Like right now it seems like everyone is wearing the darker look which is fabulous! Then when I come in with a different hair style she is always looking at me like omg she changed her hair like im not suppose to do that or something. but really hairstyles have nothing to do with age and so you pick one that suits the kind of lifestyle you would be living and on that suits your facial features. but if you need some help, I think that a nice shoulder length layers that are turned in with longer bangs look would look great on anybody. Infront of her mother in law, she can also uncover her hair and any other female relatives, but not her father in law. I think the extra long Barbie doll hair is getting old, (especially on older women) and isn't as stylish as the inverted bobs and shoulder length styles. I love Cameron Diaz's hair in Something About Mary, and Natasha Richardson's hair in The Parent Trap, and Halle Barry's hair in Executive Decision. More recently, Diane Lane's hair in Nights in Rodanthe. What say you?Do you think this new decade will bring short hair for women back in style, like in the 80's-90's?

There is a good reason why beautifully long hair is old - it is simply because it takes years to get it that long! Anyone can have short hair in a couple of minutes.
Barbie doll hair, like Barbie doll anything is synthetic. There's no comparison with that plastic blonde with a real woman with real hair with a variety of natural colours and textures and moods, ever interesting.
I care nothing for stylish. Just a posh name for ugly and spoiled really.

are there any hair stylists out there, that can help me choose a hair style? I am 67, blond hair, 5`5';, 145 lbs. I want a stylish cut, without trying to look like a teenager. I like to have a side bang, but other than that, I don`t know. I have a diamond shaped face. I have been wearing my hair with a cut out ear, etc I am hoping you guys out there can give me several ideas, as I guess I am getting tired of my regular cut. Go to the salon, and ask for a side swept bang, with a slight flip out at the back. Have them introduce some choppy layers up top and in the back, and more wispy layers as they get nearer to your face. Meanwhile, ask them to give you a blow out. Curled hair just doesn't look right. And, of course, remember Ms Exeter's (divine expert at Vogue) advice for women over 50: avoid long hair; it makes the whole face seem more saggy and droopy. So long as you're not asking the hair stylist to experiment, you should be fine.
Oh! And if you're scared to try a drastic new cut, consider getting your hair highlighted. Sometimes it's fun just to mix it up a bit with colours, which can add the illusion of different textures in your current cut, or accentuate the ones that you already have. You've made it this far, so why not have some fun!?

Anything you want! Don't get caught in the ';I'm getting a little long in the tooth'; syndrome. Choose something that fits your personality, lifestyle, and most importantly, your face and type of hair. It always amazes me the girls with curly hair want straight styles and girls with straight hair want curly styles (well...it's almost that bad). I let a hairdresser convince me that it was time to cut my long hair because ';I wasn't getting any younger'; and I've regretted it ever since. I loved the ease of putting my hair up, or in a simple clip, or a ponytail. I discovered I am not a ';short-hair'; personality. Avoid trendy styles because the upkeep isn't as simple as your hairdresser would have you believe...and it looks terrible when growing it out. I do keep my hair pulled away from face some because it looks better...and because (you guessed it) I am getting ';a little long in the tooth';! Have fun with it and Good Luck (it will always grow back)!
Bobs are nice, give it a little layer in the front and it will always look windblown. Long layers are good too, you can wear it straight are give it a Velcro roll and you get sexy curls.Chin length layers are very 'In'; also
I'm 37 although mentally people would say I'm in denial lol. I wear my hair in a upward flip and behind each ear when I have it longer. Lately it's been so hot I just put it up in a pony tail. Why act mature when we're not 60 yet? Let's enjoy life and let our hair hang down!
I believe when u start to approach 40 u should go shorter,, and lighten your hair some,, keeping it longer only makes u look like an older woman trying to look young,,embrace your age,, getting older isn't a curse its a priviledge..

I have never had short hair, but women with long GRAY hair is very unappealing in my book. What I do to ';jazz'; up my hair is simply color it. It makes it look like a new haristyle even though all I did was change color (nothing drastic..all shades of brown into reds (dark reds)). If you hair is long you could ';try'; out a short do, but cutting a few inches off at a time, so it's not drastic. If it's short, let it grow out. I also own a ton of hair barretts/headbands/clips and can wear a different ';style'; everyday. There are also hairstyling magazines you can buy! Good Luck!!

Just really depends on the person and their pocket.

I'm not having any luck with google. a website or two with a good variety of pictures would be good, and I'd like to avoid the ';scene'; cut. I'm looking for something with alot of razored edges and layers. I just had my hair cut kind of short, meaning between the earlobe and jawbone. What are some cool ways to style it? I've always had long hair so I'm a bit lost here. I got married a few months ago and wore my hair like Katy Perrys ';Wedding'; in the music video for ';Hot %26amp; Cold'; which is a down style.
Try doing really soft, loose curls. That's always gorgeous and very elegant. Pull a few strands back from the front and make sure you keep them loose. The whole idea is for the hair to look loose and flowing; not tight and restricted! A look like this is very pretty and doesn't look unnatural even if she usually wears her hair straight.

WHen you relax your hair, get weave tracks in your hair so it makes your hair look longer and thicker.

Just find some hairstyles that work for you.
For me a easy hair style is just having my hair in single braids or the type of braids where you braid it at the roots and the body isn't braided that looks really nice but I have medium long hair so it can damage hair. It's better if your hair is short.

depend what kind of hair you have? the spikey semetrical stle hair is in at the moment. spikey, and off centre, with loads of gel! almost anything goes today, but dont have that 1960,s shaggy messy look( i cant stand it! ha ha) just makes you look scruffy! and as for gay people, i am a woman and some of the best cuts and styles i have ever had have been styled by someone gay!! i acually prefere a gay man to do it, rather than a woman, as they are more fussy and precise, and always seem to know what looks good and what the latest fashion is!! good luck.
